How to choose

  • First time or coming back after years? Take the Original — it’s the game you remember.
  • Want it to look like CS2? The GO Edition.
  • Weak laptop? Any build works; CS 1.6 runs on almost anything (system requirements).
  • Playing with friends in one room? The Portable for LAN.

Steam or non-Steam?

All builds here are non-Steam: you don’t need a Steam account to install and play. If you own CS 1.6 on Steam, you can still use these builds for the extras. The differences are explained in CS 1.6 Steam vs non-Steam.

FAQ

Which CS 1.6 version is the best?

For a clean classic game take the Original. If you want a modern look take the GO Edition, for zombie servers the Zombie Edition, and for playing from a USB stick the Portable. They all run the same Counter-Strike 1.6.

What is the difference between protocol 47 and 48?

Protocol 48 is used by the current Steam version and modern servers; protocol 47 is used by old non-Steam clients. Most builds here support both, so they connect to almost any server.

Are these builds free?

Yes, every build on this site is free to download.
