CS 1.6 Online: How to Play Counter-Strike 1.6 Online

CS 1.6 online is alive: every day thousands of Counter-Strike 1.6 servers run classic 5v5, public 32-slot matches, deathmatch, zombie, jailbreak, surf and dozens of other modes. There are three ways to get into a game — here’s each one, from the best to the quickest.

The full game gives you every server, every mode and your own settings.

  1. Download CS 1.6 — any build works online.
  2. Launch the game and click Find Servers.
  3. Open the Internet tab, sort by players and double-click a server.

Prefer a specific server? Open the console with ~ and type:

connect 123.45.67.89:27015

Save the ones you like to Favorites so you can find them again.

Mode What it is
Public / Classic Standard bomb and hostage maps, up to 32 players
Deathmatch (CSDM) Instant respawn, pure aim practice
Zombie Plague / Escape Humans vs infected zombies (Zombie build)
Jailbreak Prisoners vs guards with mini-games
Deathrun Run through a trap map while one player triggers traps
Surf / KZ Movement and parkour maps
GunGame Every kill upgrades your weapon

2. Play CS 1.6 in the browser (no download)

There are web versions of Counter-Strike 1.6 that run in the browser with WebAssembly — for example play-cs.com and dos.zone (checked in September 2026). They’re fine for a quick match at school or work. Limits: fewer servers and maps, no custom config, higher input lag and no mods. For regular play the downloaded game is much better.

3. Play with friends over LAN

On one local network (same Wi-Fi or router):

  1. One player clicks New Game, picks a map and starts.
  2. Others open Find Servers → LAN and join.

The Portable build is handy for LAN parties — copy one folder to every PC.

Play with bots while you wait

No internet or want to warm up? Start New Game and add bots — see the bots guide. Want your own online server for friends? See how to create a CS 1.6 server.
